Traxxas Slash 4X4 VXL Ultimate

Stock is as the vehicle ships. Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart. The top speed is kinematic: an ideal no-load RPM with no slip and no loss under load, so a real car is slower. Speed gearing is the taller set that ships in the box but is not fitted; swapping it in is the owner's job, and the car runs hotter on it. The maker advertises 60 mph, which is their own claim on their own conditions.

Gearing parts

Tooth counts are the ones in the specifications above. Pitch is given as metric module (Mod 1, Mod 0.8) or diametral pitch (32P, 48P). They are different standards and are not interchangeable, even where the numbers look close. Bore is the pinion’s hole, listed separately from the motor shaft (3 mm on the stock motor). Gearing in the box is supplied, not fitted: the fitted set is what the figures and the calculators use. Linked part numbers go to the maker's or official distributor's page for that part.

How these numbers were settled

Traxxas's product page prints 'Gear Ratio (Internal): 11.82:1', and the owner's manual gear chart (p. 27) marks the 13T pinion on the 54T spur, 11.82, as the out-of-box setup and an 18T pinion on the same spur, 8.54, as included optional gearing for high-speed running.

• The manual works the ratio as spur / pinion x 2.85.
• The parts list sets the 13-tooth HD pinion (3943X) and the 54-tooth spur (3956) in regular type, and both part pages list this truck as a stock fitment.
• The stock tires are S1-compound BFGoodrich KM2 on black chrome wheels (6873T); the diameter is the 4.3 in that Traxxas prints for the same tire sold on its own (6871R), converted to 109.2mm.
• With the Velineon 3500Kv motor on a 3-cell LiPo these figures work out to about 42 mph stock and 58 mph with the included 18T pinion, which fits Traxxas's 60+ mph claim with optional gearing and a 3s LiPo.
• Gearing, motor and electronics match the Slash 4X4 VXL; the Ultimate differs in its tires, its lighter published weight and its factory-fitted wireless module and telemetry sensors.
