Traxxas Slash 2WD XL-5

Stock is as the vehicle ships. Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart. Not applicable means the vehicle does not come with it, like the motor on a roller or the tires on a race kit, or does not have one, like a KV rating on a brushed motor.

Gearing parts

Tooth counts are the ones in the specifications above. Pitch is given as metric module (Mod 1, Mod 0.8) or diametral pitch (32P, 48P). They are different standards and are not interchangeable, even where the numbers look close. Bore is the pinion’s hole, listed separately from the motor shaft (3 mm on the stock motor). Gearing in the box is supplied, not fitted: the fitted set is what the figures and the calculators use. Linked part numbers go to the maker's or official distributor's page for that part.

How these numbers were settled

The owner's manual gear chart (p. 25) marks a 16T pinion on the 90T spur, 15.30:1, as stock, and a 23T pinion on an 86T spur, 10.17:1, as included optional gearing that ships in the box.

• The parts list sets the 16T pinion (2416) and 90T spur (4690) in regular type, and both part pages list the Slash 2WD XL-5 as a stock fitment.
• The manual's formula is spur divided by pinion times 2.72.
• The product page prints 'Gear Ratio (Internal): 2.72 (final drive: 9.05)', which matches neither gear set in the manual, so the chart's figures are shown here.
• The motor is a brushed Titan 12T 550, so there is no KV rating and the no-load speed cannot be worked out.
• The XL-5 ESC is rated for 4 to 7 NiMH cells or a 2S LiPo; the truck comes with a 7-cell 3000 mAh NiMH pack and a USB-C charger.
• Traxxas quotes 30+ mph on the 7-cell pack without saying which gearing, so no claim is listed.
• The stock BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 tire is Traxxas's 6871, sized at 4.3 x 1.7 in, so 109 mm.
