ESC calibration

Traxxas XL-5: calibration

Traxxas Slash 2WD XL-5, model 58234-8, with the original controller and radio configuration covered by this manual edition.

Before starting

• Confirm that the fitted controller is the XL-5. Calibration sets throttle endpoints; it is separate from choosing a driving mode.
• With power disconnected, disconnect one wire between the ESC and motor before programming, as the manual instructs.

Calibration sequence

1. With the ESC off, connect a fully charged compatible battery pack to the XL-5.
2. Switch on the transmitter and leave the throttle trigger at neutral.
3. Hold EZ-Set until the LED changes from green to red, then release the button.
4. At the single red flash, pull the trigger fully back to full forward throttle and keep it there.
5. At the two red flashes, push the trigger fully forward to full reverse and keep it there.
6. One green flash confirms completion. The steady LED is green or red according to the Low-Voltage Detection setting.

Final checks

• Return the trigger to neutral. Check the battery mode before driving; never use LiPo with Low-Voltage Detection disabled.
• If the LED sequence is unexpected, disconnect the battery, wait a few seconds, reconnect it and restart the calibration. Reconnect any disconnected motor wires only with power disconnected.
