Specs

Traxxas's TRX-4 with Deep-Terrain Traxx is a 1/10 four-wheel-drive crawler on rubber tracks, sold ready to run with a Titan 550 21T brushed motor and an XL-5 HV speed control.

An 11T pinion drives a 45T spur, and 15.8:1 in the single-speed transmission gives a 64.64:1 final drive. It runs up to a 3S pack through a Traxxas High-Current plug and weighs 3.95 kg. Both gears are 32P, so a larger pinion gives more speed and a smaller one more crawling torque.

Brushed motor, so there is no KV: compare gearing by rollout.

How to read these figures
  • Stock is as the vehicle ships.
  • Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
  • Not applicable means the vehicle does not come with it, like the motor on a roller or the tires on a race kit, or does not have one, like a KV rating on a brushed motor.

About teeth, pitch and bore
  • Tooth counts are the ones in the specifications above.
  • Pitch is given as metric module (Mod 1, Mod 0.8) or diametral pitch (32P, 48P). They are different standards and are not interchangeable, even where the numbers look close.
  • Bore is the pinion’s hole, listed separately from the motor shaft (3 mm on the stock motor).

How these numbers were settled

The owner's manual (p. 22 and p. 28) calls an 11T pinion on a 45T spur the stock gearing, and the parts list sets the 11T pinion (6747) and the 45T spur (8053) in regular type.

  • The manual's formula is spur divided by pinion times 15.8, and its gear chart (p. 27) gives 64.64:1 for 11/45, so that is the final drive.
  • This truck has one speed, so there is no low range.
  • It differs from the TRX-4 Sport (82024-4), which is geared 17/39 for 36.25:1.
  • The truck runs Deep-Terrain Traxx rubber tracks instead of tires, so there is no tire diameter.
  • The XL-5 HV ESC is rated for 6 to 7 NiMH cells or 2S to 3S LiPo (p. 19), so the maximum is 3 cells.
  • The motor is brushed, so there is no KV rating.
  • The page prints a battery compartment of 23 mm or 26 mm high, so the tray height is left blank.
