Specs

Traxxas's TRX-4 Chevrolet K5 Blazer High Trail Edition is a 1/10 four-wheel-drive crawler, sold ready to run with a Titan 550 21T brushed motor, an XL-5 HV speed control and a two-speed transmission shifted from the radio.

An 11T pinion drives a 45T spur, which gives a 25.85:1 final drive in high gear and 64.64:1 in low gear. It runs up to a 3S pack through a Traxxas High-Current plug, weighs 3.30 kg and rolls on 134.6 mm tires. The shocks hold 30 wt oil. Both gears are 32P, so a smaller pinion gives more crawling torque and a larger one more speed.

How to read these figures
  • Stock is as the vehicle ships.
  • Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
  • Not applicable means the vehicle does not come with it, like the motor on a roller or the tires on a race kit, or does not have one, like a KV rating on a brushed motor.

About teeth, pitch and bore
  • Tooth counts are the ones in the specifications above.
  • Pitch is given as metric module (Mod 1, Mod 0.8) or diametral pitch (32P, 48P). They are different standards and are not interchangeable, even where the numbers look close.
  • Bore is the pinion’s hole, listed separately from the motor shaft (3 mm on the stock motor).

How these numbers were settled

The parts list sets the 11T pinion (6747) and the 45T spur (8053) in regular type, and both part pages name this truck among the stock parts.

  • The owner's manual (p. 27) prints x 6.32 for high gear and x 15.8 for low gear, and its chart gives 25.85:1 and 64.64:1 for 11/45.
  • High gear is shown as the final drive and low gear as the low range, switched from the radio.
  • It differs from the TRX-4 K10 High Trail Edition (92056-4), which runs a 10T pinion on the same 45T spur.
  • The parts list names the Canyon Trail 5.3x2.2 in tire (8170), so the tire is 134.6 mm.
  • The XL-5 HV ESC is rated for 6 to 7 NiMH cells or 2S to 3S LiPo (p. 18), so the maximum is 3 cells.
  • The motor is brushed, so there is no KV rating.
  • The shocks are filled with SAE-30W oil (p. 25).
  • The page prints a battery compartment of 23 mm or 26 mm high, so the tray height is left blank.
