ESC calibration

Traxxas XL-5 HV: calibration

TRX-4 Chevrolet K5 Blazer High Trail Edition, model 92086-4, original XL-5 HV and original radio configuration covered by this exact owner manual.

Before starting

• Confirm that the fitted controller is the XL-5 HV. Calibration sets throttle endpoints; it is separate from choosing a driving mode.
• With power disconnected, disconnect one wire between the ESC and motor before programming, as the manual instructs.

Calibration sequence

1. With the ESC off, connect a fully charged compatible battery pack to the XL-5 HV.
2. Switch on the transmitter and leave the throttle trigger at neutral.
3. Hold EZ-Set until the LED changes from green to red, then release the button.
4. At the single red flash, pull the trigger fully back to full forward throttle and keep it there.
5. At the two red flashes, push the trigger fully forward to full reverse and keep it there.
6. For normal calibration, the single green flash confirms completion. The steady LED then reflects the Low-Voltage Detection setting.

Final checks

• If calibrating specifically to clear an ESC error, the manual gives a different final branch: at the green flash, keep full reverse applied and hold the ESC button for about 10 seconds until it beeps. This clears the error and selects NiMH mode. Reactivate Low-Voltage Detection before using a LiPo battery.
• Return the trigger to neutral. Check the battery mode before driving; never use LiPo with Low-Voltage Detection disabled.
• If the LED sequence is unexpected, disconnect the battery, wait a few seconds, reconnect it and restart the calibration. Reconnect any disconnected motor wires only with power disconnected.
