Stock is as the vehicle ships. Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart. Not applicable means the vehicle does not come with it, like the motor on a roller or the tires on a race kit, or does not have one, like a KV rating on a brushed motor. Not published means it exists but no source we could find prints it.
Gearing parts
| Component | Teeth | Pitch | Bore | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fitted at the factory | ||||
| Pinion | 14T | 32P | 3 mm | AXIC0725 (opens in a new tab) |
| Spur | 40T | 32P | Not applicable | AXI-3860 (opens in a new tab) |
Tooth counts are the ones in the specifications above. Pitch is given as metric module (Mod 1, Mod 0.8) or diametral pitch (32P, 48P). They are different standards and are not interchangeable, even where the numbers look close. Bore is the pinion’s hole, listed separately from the motor shaft. Linked part numbers go to the maker's or official distributor's page for that part.
How these numbers were settled
Axial's spec table lists a 14T pinion, a 52T spur, an 'Internal Gear Ratio' of 'Low Gear: 14.16:1 High Gear: 9.7:1' and a 'Final Drive Ratio' of 'Low Gear: 40.49:1 High Gear: 27.7:1'.
- The manual's parts list and exploded view name a 40T metal spur (AXI-3860) meshing with the 14T 32P pinion (AXIC0725), and the spur's part page reads '40 tooth 32 pitch spur gear', so the spur is 40T.
- Both printed totals are 40/14 times the matching ratio after the spur (40/14 x 9.7 = 27.71), which fits a 40T spur and not a 52T one; 52T is the figure Axial printed for the first CJ-7 (AXI03008).
- On this page the internal figure already includes the AR45 axle gears (AXI232003, a 30T ring gear and an 8T pinion, 3.75:1), and the final drive is the complete ratio.
- The LCX transmission has a low and a high range: the low range (14.16 after the spur, 40.49 overall) is listed here, and the high range is 9.7 after the spur and 27.7 overall.
- The manual's gear chart (p. 10) marks the 14T pinion as stock and prints 27.71 in high, matching the spec table; its 14T low-range cell reads 41.71, which does not fit the rest of its own row (the 12T to 18T cells scale to 40.46 at 14T).
- Neither the V2 manual nor the product page says which range is engaged as delivered, and the transmitter's third channel works the DIG.
- Axial's manual for the first CJ-7, with the same gears, marked the low range as standard and the high range as optional, so the low range is taken as delivered.
- Axial does not publish the tooth counts of the internal drive and transfer case gears, so the transmission stage on its own (about 2.59:1 in high) is not confirmed from tooth counts.
- The axles are AR45 straight axles without portal hubs, and both carry a locker, so there is no diff oil.
- The tire diameter is the 4.7 in the name of the stock Mickey Thompson Baja Boss tire (AXI-3863), 119.4mm; Axial's page for its Falken Wildpeak M/T 4.7 tire calls that figure the diameter, but the Baja Boss page does not state it, so it shows as estimated.
- The spec table gives the tire compound as R30, while the manual and the tire's part name say R35.
- The brushed Slickrock 35T motor has no KV, and the Firma 40A ESC is rated for 2S to 3S LiPo.
- Axial does not publish the motor's shaft diameter, a battery tray size or the shock oil.
