Background
Top-Force Evolution was the 1992 development of Tamiya's Top-Force buggy. It kept the shaft-driven four-wheel-drive layout and low body concept, while moving to carbon chassis decks and a more elaborate drivetrain. The original 58107 instructions identify its one-way shaft and bearing, ball differentials and universal-drive components independently of the 2021 reissue. Its equipment explains the Evolution name. The factory manual lists sealed ball bearings, aluminum damper components and a setup section covering tire choice, camber, toe, damper balance and gearing. The 16T and 17T pinions shown in the parts list are documented kit choices; they should not be reduced to an assumed single standard pinion without the installation context. Factory model information (opens in a new tab). Assembly manual (opens in a new tab).
This is a useful model for understanding Tamiya's early-1990s race-kit development, but its period design still needs edition-specific service references. The original carbon parts, drive joints and one-way components retain their own printed numbers. A 47470 reissue part listing does not by itself establish original equipment or interchangeability. On a runner, begin with smooth ball-differential operation and the manual's standard suspension. Its setup section recommends adapting gearing to the motor, battery and track, including a smaller pinion for high-grip conditions. Preserve those conditions when selecting electronics, and separate restoration priorities from changes intended for frequent running. Factory model information (opens in a new tab). How to read these figures
- Stock is as the vehicle ships.
- Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
- Single report uses one outside source. It is useful as a starting figure, with the source and calculation described in the note.
- Not applicable means the vehicle does not come with it, like the motor on a roller or the tires on a race kit.
- Not published means it exists but no source we could find prints it.

Build and setup
Factory setup guide for this configuration.
The original Evolution already has sealed ball bearings, front and rear universal-drive components, aluminum damper parts and a one-way mechanism. Begin by checking those assemblies rather than buying a generic Top-Force upgrade package. Original and 2021 carbon components retain separate part numbers.[1] Exact numbered factory assembly manual (opens in a new tab)[2] Factory design history and exact reissue context (opens in a new tab)
The original instructions provide 16T and 17T pinions and identify the matching motor-mount holes. Choose the ratio for the motor, battery and surface. The setup section specifically suggests a pinion one or two teeth smaller on a high-grip surface; that conditional choice is different from declaring one tooth count the stock setup.[1] Exact numbered factory assembly manual (opens in a new tab)[2] Factory design history and exact reissue context (opens in a new tab)

Build the ball differentials and one-way shaft in the specified order, then check smooth movement before fitting the body. The manual's setup section also covers tires, toe and camber. Return to those positions if a used car's adjustments are unknown, then make small changes that can be compared.[1] Exact numbered factory assembly manual (opens in a new tab)[2] Factory design history and exact reissue context (opens in a new tab)
Service the dampers with their own cylinder, piston and seal arrangement. The original parts card lists damper oil and spring options, but a maker grade is not a verified cSt value and a spring label is not an assembled shock length. Keep those distinctions when ordering rebuild components.[1] Exact numbered factory assembly manual (opens in a new tab)[2] Factory design history and exact reissue context (opens in a new tab)
