Specs

Traxxas's 4-Tec 2.0 VXL Chassis is a 1/10 four-wheel-drive touring car chassis, sold without a body but with a Velineon 3500 brushless motor and a VXL-3s speed control.

A 29T pinion drives a 70T spur, and 2.85:1 in the transmission gives a 6.88:1 final drive. The box also holds a 35T pinion and a 55T spur for 4.48:1, which is what Traxxas's 70 mph claim assumes. It runs up to a 3S pack through a Traxxas High-Current plug and weighs 1.44 kg. The front diff holds 30K oil and the rear 10K. Both gears are 48P, so fit the pinion and spur together, and keep the taller set for smooth, hard surfaces.

How to read these figures
  • Stock is as the vehicle ships.
  • Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
  • Not published means it exists but no source we could find prints it.

About teeth, pitch and bore
  • Tooth counts are the ones in the specifications above.
  • Pitch is given as metric module (Mod 1, Mod 0.8) or diametral pitch (32P, 48P). They are different standards and are not interchangeable, even where the numbers look close.
  • Bore is the pinion’s hole, listed separately from the motor shaft (3 mm on the stock motor).
  • Gearing in the box is supplied, not fitted: the fitted set is what the figures and the calculators use.

How these numbers were settled

The owner's manual gear chart (p. 24) marks a 29T pinion on the 70T spur as the out-of-box setup for 7-cell NiMH or 2S/3S LiPo, and a 35T pinion on the 55T spur as included optional gearing for high-speed running.

  • The parts list sets the 29T pinion (2429), the 35T pinion (2435), the 70T spur (8357) and the 55T spur (8358) in regular type.
  • The chart cells give only the spur-to-pinion ratio, and the formula above them multiplies it by 2.85, so the final drives of 6.88:1 and 4.48:1 are worked out from those figures.
  • The manual's speed table lists 35+ mph on a 7-cell NiMH pack and 50+ mph on 3S with the 29/70 set, and 70+ mph on 3S with the 35/55 set, so the 70+ mph on the product page assumes the included optional gearing.
  • The VXL-3s ESC is rated for 4.8 to 11.1 V, which is 2S to 3S LiPo (p. 18).
  • Traxxas does not publish the outside diameter of the 1.9 in Response tire, so the tire size is left blank.
  • The page prints a battery compartment of 23 mm or 26 mm high, so the tray height is left blank.
  • The front differential is filled with SAE 30,000W oil and the rear with SAE 10,000W (p. 24).
  • The chassis is sold without a body.
