Gearing parts

Tooth counts are the ones in the specifications above. Pitch is given as metric module (Mod 1, Mod 0.8) or diametral pitch (32P, 48P). They are different standards and are not interchangeable, even where the numbers look close. Bore is the pinion’s hole, listed separately from the motor shaft. Linked part numbers go to the maker's or official distributor's page for that part.

How these numbers were settled

The owner's manual gear chart (p. 24) marks a 31T pinion on the 62T spur as the out-of-box setup for 2-cell or 3-cell LiPo.

• The chart cells give only the spur-to-pinion ratio (2.00 for 31/62), while the formula above the chart multiplies it by 2.85, the 37/13 ring and pinion in each differential (part 6879), so the total of 5.70:1 is worked out from those figures.
• The 240SX parts list names the regular-type 62-tooth spur (8359) but does not list the 31-tooth pinion; the 4-Tec 2.0 Brushless Chassis (83424-4), which shares the driveline and gear chart, lists the 31-tooth pinion (2431) in regular type as stock.
• No optional pinion comes in the box.
• The product page prints no gear ratio.
• Traxxas quotes 35+ mph on a 2-cell LiPo and 50+ mph on a 3-cell LiPo with no gearing change; the top speed shown is the 3-cell figure.
• Traxxas does not publish the 1.9 in Response tire's outer diameter, so the tire is left blank.
• The product page gives the V3300 motor's shaft as 3 mm in the spec table and 5 mm in the feature list, so the shaft size is left blank.
• The page prints the weight as 2.28 pounds (1.30 kg), which do not match each other, and two battery compartment heights, 23 mm or 26 mm, so both are left blank.
• The bodyless 4-Tec 2.0 Brushless Chassis (83424-4) has the same gearing, motor, ESC and Response tires on different wheels.
