Background
The RC500 four-wheel-drive kit is a separate factory configuration within Associated’s nitro on-road range. The historical catalog identifies it as kit 5002, records its 1987 IFMAR championship result and lists a 5515 package for converting the two-wheel-drive RC500. Those records provide a concrete connection between the versions without making their complete assemblies interchangeable. The kit included its flywheel and engine mounts, while the engine, radio and body were selected separately. The 5515 conversion instructions add the front-drive assembly to the earlier RC500 instructions. A running-change sheet replaces the original 16T and 28T front-drive sprockets with 18T and 32T parts and a longer belt. 4WD instructions (opens in a new tab) Check its chain, sprockets, front axle hardware and differential configuration individually before treating a surviving example as factory-standard. How to read these figures
- Stock is as the vehicle ships.
- Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
- Not applicable means the vehicle does not come with it, like the motor on a roller or the tires on a race kit.
- Not published means it exists but no source we could find prints it.
Build and setup
Factory setup guide for this configuration.
Check the front-drive assembly against the 5515 conversion instructions and its running-change sheet. Later instructions replace the 16T and 28T sprockets and earlier belt with an 18T/32T pair and a longer belt, and identify revised steering blocks and bearings. Keep each matched set together when restoring the drive. Inspect the actual components before adjusting the belt or ordering a replacement.[1] RC500 4WD Racing Car Kit factory assembly material (opens in a new tab)[2] RC500 4WD Racing Car Kit factory assembly material (opens in a new tab)
