Background
The RC300 represents Associated’s early nitro on-road racing cars, with a rear power pod, a solid rear axle and a separate front chassis plate. The factory instructions describe a kit normally supplied with mounts and a flywheel for a K&B 3.5cc engine. That identifies the intended installation without implying that an engine was supplied. The rear assembly rewards careful alignment: the manual has the builder center both bearing blocks so the axle can slide freely through them. Its disc brake, gear hub and rear wheel hubs are separate service items. A period RC300-D advertisement specifies differential 2750, while the later RC300-BD parts catalog lists differential 2850. Those differential-equipped cars should remain distinct from the original fixed-axle arrangement. The period tuning notes are particularly useful for a runner. They emphasize matching left and right tire diameters, checking chassis tweak and using only as much steering travel as the track requires. The suggested rear tire size is a tuning recommendation, not a guaranteed as-boxed diameter. Inspect the actual gears, tires and engine installation when bringing a surviving car back into use. How to read these figures
- Stock is as the vehicle ships.
- Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
- Not applicable means the vehicle does not come with it, like the motor on a roller or the tires on a race kit.
- Not published means it exists but no source we could find prints it.
Build and setup
Factory setup guide for this configuration.
Check rear axle alignment before working through the chassis setup. The factory instructions have both bearing blocks positioned so the axle slides freely through them; binding here can obscure the effect of later changes. For steering, begin with the outer servo-saver linkage hole and add travel only as needed for the track. Match tire diameters from left to right before checking chassis tweak. The rear tire figure in the tuning notes is a recommended running size rather than a guaranteed stock diameter.[1] RC300 factory assembly and setup instructions (opens in a new tab)

About these specs
Original configuration; identify the fitted tires, gearing and electronics on a restored car. Period battery-cell references do not establish a modern LiPo rating.
