Background
Thunder Shot introduced a new Tamiya four-wheel-drive buggy in 1987. It combined a low, futuristic body with a molded tub, a shaft-driven transmission and independent suspension. Its single front damper and pair of rear dampers make the chassis immediately recognisable. The original 58067 assembly manual is distinct from the 2005 and 2022 reissue instructions. The original kit uses a mechanical speed controller, a separate throttle linkage and a 15T motor pinion. Its parts drawings distinguish the motor mount, motor plate, countershaft and propeller joints. These are useful identifiers when a used car has received mixed-era replacements. The similarity of a later body does not establish that its dampers, tires or electrical layout are original equipment. Factory model information (opens in a new tab). Assembly manual (opens in a new tab).
Thunder Shot's role in the range was approachable shaft-driven four-wheel-drive running, with enclosed front and rear gearboxes and a front stabilizer. The original tuning insert explains setup changes for this chassis rather than promising modern competition performance. Start a restoration with free suspension movement and the documented steering and drivetrain assembly, then judge the need for changes on the actual running surface. How to read these figures
- Stock is as the vehicle ships.
- Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
- Not published means it exists but no source we could find prints it.

Build and setup
Factory setup guide for this configuration.
Identify the original 58067 chassis before ordering later Thunder Shot parts. Its mechanical speed controller and throttle linkage are period equipment. Use the actual controller's instructions for any electrical conversion; an original nominal NiCd voltage does not specify a modern LiPo limit.[1] Exact numbered factory assembly manual (opens in a new tab)[2] Factory design history and exact reissue context (opens in a new tab)
Build the 15T motor installation and enclosed gearboxes to the original drawings. Check the countershaft, propeller joints and drive shafts for free movement before fitting more motor. The shared family name does not establish that a later aluminum mount or wheel package completes an original conversion.[1] Exact numbered factory assembly manual (opens in a new tab)[2] Factory design history and exact reissue context (opens in a new tab)

Keep the transverse front damper and stabilizer as a working pair. Service the oil dampers and check the suspension travel before adding spring preload or replacement hardware. The separate original tuning insert gives model-specific adjustment context, while the 2022 damper specification belongs to another edition.[1] Exact numbered factory assembly manual (opens in a new tab)[2] Factory design history and exact reissue context (opens in a new tab)
Center the steering servo and check the linkages with the wheels off the ground. Restore the standard positions before experimenting, then make small changes that can be compared on the same surface. The original diagrams are a service reference, not a requirement to replace the complete suspension.[1] Exact numbered factory assembly manual (opens in a new tab)[2] Factory design history and exact reissue context (opens in a new tab)
