Tamiya's DT-04 is a 1/10 two-wheel-drive buggy chassis with the motor at the rear and the battery mounted lengthwise, sold as the Fighter NXGEN kit.

Tamiya prints 9.28:1 with the kit's 17T pinion and 8.3:1 with an optional 19T, and the wheelbase can be set to 265 mm or 280 mm. The shorter setting favors quick steering and the longer one stability, as Tamiya describes them. The spur and gearbox stage are not published, so enter your pinion in the gearing tool to see what it does.

Pinion The small gear on the motor shaft. Fewer teeth gear the car shorter: quicker acceleration, lower top speed and a cooler motor. More teeth do the opposite. On a chassis sold as kits, each kit brings its own. Spur The large gear the pinion drives. A bigger spur with the same pinion gears the car shorter. Pinion and spur must have the same pitch, or tooth size, to mesh. Transmission & axle Every reduction after the spur, multiplied together: transmission, differentials and axle gears. It is fixed by the design; the gearing you change is the pinion and spur. Final drive, printed How many times the motor turns for one turn of the wheels. A higher number is shorter gearing: more acceleration and pulling power, less top speed.

Tire diameter The outside diameter of the mounted tire, tread to tread. A taller tire covers more ground each turn, which gears the car taller. Race tires wear down over a day, and a smaller tire gears the car shorter.

How these numbers were settled

Tamiya prints 'ギヤ比＝9.28：1(キット標準17Tピニオン使用時)' on the Fighter NXGEN 58741, the only kit on its DT-04 list, and the manual's table gives 17T 9.28:1 and 19T 8.30:1 (step 6, PDF p. 5); 17 x 9.28 = 157.8 and 19 x 8.30 = 157.7 agree.

The manual labels the spur GB4 and the counter gear GB1 without tooth counts and the gearbox stage is not published, so pinion x ratio is the only gearing fact.
Rear motor, rear-wheel drive; Tamiya prints 'ホイールベース265mm/280mm', short for handling and long for stability.
