Background

The original Boomerang arrived in Tamiya's 1986 four-wheel-drive buggy range. Its low body and wing sit on a molded bathtub chassis, with independent suspension and oil dampers at both ends. The original instructions identify an RS-540S motor and a mechanical speed-control arrangement. Original instructions (opens in a new tab). Rerelease history (opens in a new tab).

The layout belongs to the earlier Tamiya shaft-driven off-road family, but the 58055 kit has its own suspension, body and service references. The manual's original printed kit number is 5855, an earlier numbering form for this release. The later Boomerang (2008) is a separate rerelease entry. Original instructions (opens in a new tab).

For a restoration, compare the actual molded groups, gearbox joints and damper pieces with the original drawings before treating a modern parts packet as a substitute. A runner benefits from free suspension travel and correctly rebuilt dampers before changes to motor output. Preserve the mechanical controller and its wiring only where the intended restoration calls for period equipment. Original instructions (opens in a new tab).
