Redcat Racing Blackout SC

1/10 scale · short course · RER07115

Specs

Redcat Racing's Blackout SC is a four-wheel-drive 1/10 short course truck, sold ready to run with a 550 brushed motor of 16 turns and a waterproof brushed speed control.

It drives a 55T spur and rolls on 100 mm tires with 12 mm hexes. The truck measures 465 mm long on a 290 mm wheelbase and is 285 mm wide. The speed control accepts up to a 3S pack, but a brushed motor on a bigger pack runs hotter, so check it by touch after the first few runs. Redcat's parts list shows two different motor gears, so confirm which pinion is fitted before ordering a spare.

How to read these figures
  • Stock is as the vehicle ships.
  • Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
  • Not applicable means the vehicle does not come with it, like the motor on a roller or the tires on a race kit, or does not have one, like a KV rating on a brushed motor.
  • Not published means it exists but no source we could find prints it.

About teeth, pitch and bore
  • Tooth counts are the ones in the specifications above.
  • Pitch is given as metric module (Mod 1, Mod 0.8) or diametral pitch (32P, 48P). They are different standards and are not interchangeable, even where the numbers look close.
  • Bore is the pinion’s hole, listed separately from the motor shaft (3.2 mm on the stock motor).

How these numbers were settled

The Blackout SC manual's exploded view on page 10 lists a BS213-026 marked 'Spur Gear 55T', and Redcat's part page prints 'Spur Gear 55T (.8 Module)' and names the Blackout SC.

  • The manual shows two different motor gears: the exploded view on page 10 lists BS214-007, while the parts list on page 11 lists BS214-006 marked '18T Motor gear'.
  • Redcat's part page for BS214-007 names only the Blackout SC Pro, so which pinion is stock is unclear and it is left blank.
  • The reduction after the spur and the final drive are left blank because the diff unit (BS903-104) and the gear shaft unit (BS213-025) are sold without tooth counts.
  • The tire comes from Redcat's part page for the black pre-mounted 1/10 SC tires and wheels (BS711-002), which prints an overall diameter of 100mm and a width of 43mm and names the Blackout SC; the manual's parts list shows the same tire.
  • The manual's specifications page gives 465 mm long, 285 mm wide, 140 mm high without body and a 290 mm wheelbase, with a 7.2v NiMH pack in the box.
  • Redcat's page for the Hobbywing brushed waterproof ESC (the BS218-015 in the manual) lists the Blackout SC and gives 'Max Battery: 3s 11.1v Lipo', while Redcat's page for the 550 motor lists a 2s limit, so the speed control's 3S rating is used here.
  • The motor is a 550 brushed can, so no KV applies.
  • A news post of 14 April 2015 announced the Blackout SC and SC Pro.
