Specs

Redcat Racing's Blackout XBE is a four-wheel-drive 1/10 buggy, sold ready to run with a 550 brushed motor of 16 turns and a waterproof brushed speed control.

The 18T pinion drives a 55T spur, and the 109 mm tires sit on 12 mm hexes. The buggy measures 427 mm long on a 290 mm wheelbase. The speed control accepts up to a 3S pack, but a brushed motor on a bigger pack runs hotter, so check it by touch after the first few runs. If it is too hot to hold, a smaller pinion on the 3.2 mm motor shaft brings the temperature down.

How to read these figures
  • Stock is as the vehicle ships.
  • Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
  • Not applicable means the vehicle does not come with it, like the motor on a roller or the tires on a race kit, or does not have one, like a KV rating on a brushed motor.
  • Not published means it exists but no source we could find prints it.

About teeth, pitch and bore
  • Tooth counts are the ones in the specifications above.
  • Pitch is given as metric module (Mod 1, Mod 0.8) or diametral pitch (32P, 48P). They are different standards and are not interchangeable, even where the numbers look close.
  • Bore is the pinion’s hole, listed separately from the motor shaft (3.2 mm on the stock motor).

How these numbers were settled

The Blackout XBE manual's parts identification page lists a BS214-006 marked '18T Motor gear', and its exploded view lists the BS213-026 spur marked 'Spur Gear 55T'.

  • Redcat's part page for BS213-026 prints 'Spur Gear 55T (.8 Module)' and names the Blackout XBE in its fitment list.
  • The reduction after the spur is left blank because the diff unit (BS903-104) and the gear shaft unit (BS213-025) are sold without tooth counts, so the final drive is blank too.
  • The tire diameter comes from Redcat's part page for the black pre-mounted 1/10 truck tires and wheels (BS214-009), which prints an overall diameter of 109mm and a width of 47mm and names the Blackout XBE.
  • The manual lists the same part.
  • The manual's specifications page gives 427 mm long, 280 mm wide, 140 mm high without body and a 290 mm wheelbase, and a 7.2v NiMH pack in the box.
  • Redcat's page for the Hobbywing brushed waterproof ESC (the BS218-015 in the manual) lists the Blackout XBE and gives 'Max Battery: 3s 11.1v Lipo', while Redcat's page for the 550 motor lists a 2s limit, so the speed control's 3S rating is used here.
  • The motor is a 550 brushed can, so no KV applies.
  • Redcat's own page for the XBE on archive.org from 28 April 2015 describes the RC550 brushed motor and the 7.2v 3000mAh battery.
