Tooth counts are the ones in the specifications above. Pitch is given as metric module (Mod 1, Mod 0.8) or diametral pitch (32P, 48P). They are different standards and are not interchangeable, even where the numbers look close. Bore is the pinion’s hole, listed separately from the motor shaft.
How these numbers were settled
The APEX runs its front and rear axles at different ratios, so there is no single ratio after the spur or final drive.
- The manual's spare-parts page lists RER31798, Redcat's portal overdrive and underdrive set (13T, 15T, 22T and 24T gears, 'Front overdrive = 11.3%, Rear underdrive = 11.7%'), in place of the standard 14T and 23T portal gears, the axle exploded view shows the 13T and 24T gears fitted, and the product page describes the truck as having 'overdrive gears'.
- The transmission is RER39670, 'Low Range Transmission Gears 20.52:1': an 11T pinion into a 38T/16T drive gear, a 39T/16T idler and a 39T output, and 38/11 x 39/16 x 39/16 = 20.52.
- The axles use APEX-only gears, an 8T diff pinion (RER42135) on a 20T one-piece spool ring gear (RER42134), a 2.5 reduction where the other Ascent-18s run 2.0.
- The tire diameter is not published; the '1.3in or 30.33mm' on the product page is the beadlock wheel.
- The Hobbywing WP-Mini24 ESC is rated for 2-3S LiPo and the motor is the HW-1621 3500KV outrunner.
- RER42219 and RER42222 are colour versions.
