Background
The Subaru Brat rerelease returns to Tamiya's 1983 RC pickup, updating the running gear while retaining its unusual space-frame layout. It combines a detailed styrene pickup body and driver with a second, lighter polycarbonate shell. That gives the builder a choice between a display-oriented finish and a body better suited to regular driving. Model details (opens in a new tab).

The rear-wheel-drive chassis uses inboard front springs and trailing-arm rear suspension. The rerelease adds diaphragm oil dampers at the rear and dogbone driveshaft joints. A 540 motor feeds a sealed differential gearbox, with three selectable gear combinations. The truck's scale appearance should not be confused with a four-wheel-drive trail chassis. This is the updated 58384 kit, not the original 58038. Keep body fittings, gearbox parts and rear suspension references tied to the edition. The current Japanese page describes a December 2012 offering, while the later Blue Version page identifies the rerelease's debut as 2007; a subsequent production date is not a new original design. How to read these figures
- Stock is as the vehicle ships.
- Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
- Not applicable means the vehicle does not come with it, like the motor on a roller or the tires on a race kit.
- Not published means it exists but no source we could find prints it.
