Background
The 2005 Manta Ray reissue brings back Tamiya's 1990 shaft-driven four-wheel-drive buggy. Its body still uses the sweeping side extensions and large rear wing inspired by its namesake. Underneath, the molded honeycomb tub carries the radio equipment and battery low in the chassis, with independent suspension and four CVA oil dampers. Factory model information (opens in a new tab). Assembly manual (opens in a new tab).

The design emphasises service access as well as appearance. Front and rear gearbox inspection covers allow the gears to be checked and exchanged while the cases remain on the chassis. Gear differentials at both ends give the wheels room to turn at different speeds through a corner. The standard kit remains a simpler proposition than the double-deck Top-Force and its ball differentials. Factory model information (opens in a new tab). Assembly manual (opens in a new tab).
Tamiya's page lists 84 mm tires and an RS-540 type motor for this numbered edition. Use the exact 58360 instructions when assembling its motor mount and choosing pinion positions. The later 47367 Manta Ray is a separate reissue with its own parts and equipment instructions, even though the overall design and the tire diameter remain familiar. How to read these figures
- Stock is as the vehicle ships.
- Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
- Not published means it exists but no source we could find prints it.

Build and setup
Factory setup guide for this configuration.
Use the exact 58360 instructions for the Manta Ray reissue. The factory PDF retains Japanese period mechanical-controller drawings, so the battery and controller limits of any regional completion package must be checked on the actual electronics. Do not treat that old circuit as a modern LiPo approval.[1] Exact numbered factory assembly manual (opens in a new tab)[2] Factory design history and exact reissue context (opens in a new tab)
The motor diagram uses a 21T pinion and numbered holes in the motor mount. Match the hole position to the pinion and confirm that the drivetrain turns freely. The 84 mm tire figure comes from the 58360 product page, not from scaling a wheel drawing or borrowing a different kit's tire.[1] Exact numbered factory assembly manual (opens in a new tab)[2] Factory design history and exact reissue context (opens in a new tab)

Service the four CVA dampers and check the suspension pivots before changing the chassis. The gearbox inspection covers make the gears accessible for checking wear and lubrication. The purpose of an early rebuild is a freely moving baseline; more motor can wait until that is established.[1] Exact numbered factory assembly manual (opens in a new tab)[2] Factory design history and exact reissue context (opens in a new tab)
Keep the 2005 and later 47367 parts references separate. Similar-looking joints and molded parts can carry different package numbers or installation instructions. Use the exact drawing for the assembly being repaired rather than assuming that the later edition's option list applies unchanged.[1] Exact numbered factory assembly manual (opens in a new tab)[2] Factory design history and exact reissue context (opens in a new tab)
