Background
Fire Dragon (2020) returns the red manga-derived buggy that Tamiya first sold as a four-wheel-drive RC kit in 1989. This edition's Japanese release followed in March 2021. Its flowing polycarbonate body is painted red and cut out, leaving the stickers and driver details for the builder. The body sits on a shaft-driven, mid-motor bathtub chassis. Factory reference (opens in a new tab). Assembly manual (opens in a new tab).

Front and rear sealed gearboxes contain three-bevel differentials. Four CVA oil dampers support independent double-wishbone suspension, with a front stabilizer and an aluminum motor mount included. The four spike tires measure 83 mm in diameter, and the published final-drive ratio is 7.68:1. The polycarbonate dust cover helps shield the radio equipment. Factory reference (opens in a new tab). Assembly manual (opens in a new tab).
This is an assembly kit with a supplied Type 540 motor. The controller, radio, battery and charger are required separately. Although it belongs to the same visual Dragon series as Thunder Dragon and Saint Dragon, its body, preparation and front suspension arrangement need their own instructions. A restoration or running build benefits from keeping the exact kit number with the service-parts order. Factory reference (opens in a new tab). Assembly manual (opens in a new tab).

How to read these figures
- Stock is as the vehicle ships.
- Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
- Not applicable means the vehicle does not come with it, like the motor on a roller or the tires on a race kit.
- Not published means it exists but no source we could find prints it.
Build and setup
Factory setup guide for this configuration.
Assemble the 15T pinion and aluminum motor mount in the position shown for this kit, then check the gearboxes and shafts for free movement. A higher-output motor is not a substitute for correcting a tight gearbox or worn shaft joint.[1] Exact factory product and historical description (opens in a new tab)[2] Exact factory assembly and setup manual (opens in a new tab)
Keep the four-damper suspension layout intact as the initial setup. The front CVA mini and rear short dampers are different assemblies, and Thunder Dragon's front monoshock is a separate design. Inspect the body cover and front stabilizer after off-road running, and use the numbered manual for the red-body edition's service references.[1] Exact factory product and historical description (opens in a new tab)[2] Exact factory assembly and setup manual (opens in a new tab)
