Background

The Bigwig (2017) returns Tamiya's 1986 tenth-anniversary buggy to the range. Its body retains Takuya Yura's broad aerodynamic shape, with Mooncraft markings and the imitation engine and exhaust details behind the cockpit. A later production run can carry the same 47330 kit number; the current Japanese page separately records the edition's first release in March 2017. Factory model information (opens in a new tab). The shaft-driven four-wheel-drive chassis keeps the rack-and-pinion steering that distinguished the original. Four CVA oil dampers and a full set of drivetrain ball bearings are included. The front and rear wishbone arrangements remain visibly different, with the body and chassis working together to create a model that has more unusual mechanical detail than a conventional modern bathtub buggy. This reissue supplies a dedicated 25-turn GT-Tuned motor and uses an electronic speed controller purchased separately. Its original predecessor used a Technigold motor and mechanical controller, so electrical completion details are edition-specific. The instructions give both 13T and 15T gearing arrangements, with the necessary set-plate changes; there is no need to reduce those two supported choices to one assumed factory pinion. The enclosed electronics and rack steering make careful installation worthwhile. Keep the rack boots and lubrication in good condition, and check controller height before choosing electronics for the standard position. The large body is part of the attraction, but it also means a physically small receiver and controller can make maintenance and cable routing easier. Factory model information (opens in a new tab). • The ESC and running battery are purchased separately for this numbered kit.
  • Check the chosen controller for its own battery and motor ratings. 13T and 15T installations are both documented; there is no single selected default pinion.
