Tooth counts are the ones in the specifications above. Pitch is given as metric module (Mod 1, Mod 0.8) or diametral pitch (32P, 48P). They are different standards and are not interchangeable, even where the numbers look close. Bore is the pinion’s hole, listed separately from the motor shaft (3.2 mm on the stock motor). Linked part numbers go to the maker's or official distributor's page for that part.
How these numbers were settled
The brushed Volcano EPX is geared lower than the EPX Pro.
- Its manual's parts identification page lists an 11119 pinion (17T) and an 11164 spur (64T), and Redcat's parts page for 11119 describes it as a '17T, .6 mod' brass pinion for the Volcano EPX.
- Each diff is an 08074 38T ring gear driven by an 02030 drive gear, which Redcat's parts page lists as a 13T differential pinion for the Volcano EPX, so the ratio after the spur is 38/13 = 2.92 and the total is 64/17 x 2.92 = 11.01.
- The exploded view labels the speed control HW-WP-1040-Brushed, and Redcat's page for that ESC gives 'Max Battery: 3s 11.1v Lipo' and lists the Volcano EPX, so the cell count is 3 even though the truck ships with a 7.2V NiMH pack.
- The motor is a brushed 550 can, so no KV.
- The tire is the 20126 wheel and tire set named in the manual, which a dealer listing gives as 4.80in (122mm) overall and standard on the Volcano EPX, EPX Pro and S30.
