The Scout II adds front and rear lights, a hinged licensed body and an extended metal chassis section to the small Ascent platform. Keep the brushed motor, RER29168 plastic transmission gears and RER29171 12T pinion separate from the later brushless Scout II drivetrain. The current factory-linked manual is dated January 13, 2026 and describes the R3C radio/ESC; check the equipment in an earlier truck before applying its radio procedure. How to read these figures
- Stock is as the vehicle ships.
- Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
- Single report uses one outside source. It is useful as a starting figure, with the source and calculation described in the note.
- Not published means it exists but no source we could find prints it.
Build and setup
Factory setup guide for this configuration.
Begin with the brushed Scout II radio setup before changing steering parts. The manual separates steering trim from steering travel adjustment, and the same trim buttons select different functions in different adjustment modes. Confirm the active mode, center the steering, and set enough travel for the trail without forcing the steering against its stops. After changing throttle trim, restart the receiver so it records the new neutral position.[1] Ascent-18 International Scout II Brushed factory setup and maintenance manual (opens in a new tab)
The R3C system has a reduced-output beginner mode, but the manual says normal mode returns at each power-on. Recheck the mode each time rather than assuming a previous reduced setting remains active. If drive cuts out, distinguish a discharged battery, thermal protection and a blocked drivetrain; clear trapped debris and let hot electronics cool before trying again.[1] Ascent-18 International Scout II Brushed factory setup and maintenance manual (opens in a new tab)

Keep replacement electronics within the limits of the stock wiring diagram. This brushed model has an integrated ESC and receiver; its channel outlets are not an input for an external ESC. The manual explicitly warns against connecting another ESC there. Use the exact wiring and calibration instructions if a replacement changes that arrangement.[1] Ascent-18 International Scout II Brushed factory setup and maintenance manual (opens in a new tab)
