Specs

Sold ready to run, Maverick's Quantum MT is a four-wheel-drive 1/10 monster truck with an MM-550 15T brushed motor and a waterproof MSC-30BR-WP speed control.

The 13T pinion and 48T spur, with a 3.08:1 reduction after the spur, make an 11.36:1 final drive. The truck weighs 2.1 kg, measures 475 mm long on a 285 mm wheelbase and rolls on 124 mm tires with 12 mm hexes. The speed control is rated for 2S with this 15T motor, so a 2S LiPo is the pack to fit if you want more than the NiMH stick pack in the box.

How to read these figures
  • Stock is as the vehicle ships.
  • Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
  • Derived is worked out from gear tooth counts the maker publishes rather than printed as a ratio; the notes below say how.
  • Not applicable means the vehicle does not come with it, like the motor on a roller or the tires on a race kit, or does not have one, like a KV rating on a brushed motor.
  • Not published means it exists but no source we could find prints it.

About teeth, pitch and bore
  • Tooth counts are the ones in the specifications above.
  • Pitch is given as metric module (Mod 1, Mod 0.8) or diametral pitch (32P, 48P). They are different standards and are not interchangeable, even where the numbers look close.
  • Bore is the pinion’s hole, listed separately from the motor shaft.

How these numbers were settled

HPI's standard parts list for the Quantum MT names a 48T 32DP spur (150137) and a 13T aluminium pinion (150138) for the MM-550 15T brushed motor (150040).

  • The parts list names the 40T/13T differential bevel gear set (150142) and no other reduction after the spur, so the ratio after the spur is worked out as 40/13 = 3.08, and the total as 48/13 x 3.08 = 11.36.
  • The train is read from the parts list, as no gearing diagram is printed.
  • The tire is the Tredz Tractor tire (150180), which HPI's part page gives as 124x70/2.8"; the 124 is taken as the outer diameter in millimetres, the same reading used for the 120x70 Tredz Accelerator on the Quantum XT.
  • The kit page gives the length, width, height, wheelbase and a weight of 2.10 kg, and says a 7.2V 2000mAh NiMH pack and a USB charger are in the box.
  • The MSC-30BR-WP ESC manual rates it for 2-3S LiPo but says not to run a motor under 18T on 3S, so with the stock 15T motor the limit is 2S.
  • The motor is brushed, so no KV applies.
