Tooth counts are the ones in the specifications above. Pitch is given as metric module (Mod 1, Mod 0.8) or diametral pitch (32P, 48P). They are different standards and are not interchangeable, even where the numbers look close. Bore is the pinion’s hole, listed separately from the motor shaft. Linked part numbers go to the maker's or official distributor's page for that part.
How these numbers were settled
The manual (step 35) fits a 21T 48P pinion (40062) to the motor, and it drives an 84T 48P spur (40118) on the slipper.
- Hobao's page lists the transmission as a 21T lay-shaft gear, a 27T idler and a 51T gear on the differential housing, so the ratio after the spur is 2.43:1 (51/21; the idler does not change it) and the total 9.71:1, worked out from the tooth counts.
- Hobao prints no ratio.
- Hobao's page lists a pinion among the items needed to complete the car, while the manual and Hobao USA's standard parts list for the EX10 both include the 21T pinion; the manual's 21T is shown here.
- An optional 94T spur (OP1-0059) and 22T to 24T pinions are sold as options.
- The car comes without body, motor, speed control, servo or radio but with wheels and tires (2.2in front, 3.0in belted rear slicks); Hobao does not publish the tire diameter, so it is left blank.
- The gear differential is filled with 500K silicone oil.
- Hobao USA currently sells it as HB-EX10+OP1-0062, bundled with the aluminium gearbox upgrade.
