Tamiya's TT-01 Type-E is a 1/10 four-wheel-drive, shaft-driven chassis sold as kits under touring car and race truck bodies.

Every kit on it uses the 61T spur and a 2.60:1 gearbox and axle stage on a 257 mm wheelbase, so the pinion you fit sets the gearing. The pinion, motor and tires come with each kit rather than with the chassis. To compare a kit with another car, enter its pinion and tire size in the gearing tool with the 61T spur.

Pinion The small gear on the motor shaft. Fewer teeth gear the car shorter: quicker acceleration, lower top speed and a cooler motor. More teeth do the opposite. On a chassis sold as kits, each kit brings its own. Spur The large gear the pinion drives. A bigger spur with the same pinion gears the car shorter. Pinion and spur must have the same pitch, or tooth size, to mesh. Transmission & axle Every reduction after the spur, multiplied together: transmission, differentials and axle gears. It is fixed by the design; the gearing you change is the pinion and spur. This one is worked out from the tooth counts the maker publishes. Final drive How many times the motor turns for one turn of the wheels. A higher number is shorter gearing: more acceleration and pulling power, less top speed. On-road racers often compare gearing by rollout instead, because tire sizes differ between cars.

Tire diameter The outside diameter of the mounted tire, tread to tread. A taller tire covers more ground each turn, which gears the car taller. Race tires wear down over a day, and a smaller tire gears the car shorter.

Motor Motor KV is the RPM a motor turns per volt with no load. This vehicle comes without a motor, so there is no stock KV; it depends on the one you fit. How these numbers were settled

Every TT-01 Type-E kit shares the 61T spur and the gearbox and axle stage after it.

Tamiya prints only the complete motor-to-wheel ratio on each kit page ('ギヤ比=8.35:1' on the Mercedes-Benz 190 E and the Actros truck), so the stage after the spur is derived.
Tamiya's Grand Prix rules give the TT-01 a 61T spur with a 19T pinion for the A-Main class and list 61T/21T as 7.55:1, which gives 7.55 x 21/61 = 2.599.
The same 2.6 on 61T/19T reproduces the kit pages' 8.35:1, (61/19) x 2.6 = 8.347.
The pinion, motor and tires come with each kit; the 1/14 race trucks use this 1/10 chassis.
The kit pages print a 257mm wheelbase.
