Tamiya's M-05Ra is the rally version of the M-05, a 1/10 front-wheel-drive chassis set up for flat dirt as well as pavement, sold as the Citroen 2CV Rally and Renault 5 Turbo kits.

It comes with a 16T pinion for 7.25:1, and the same table as the M-05 gives 6.44:1 on an 18T and 5.8:1 on a 20T. The kits are built on a 210 mm or 239 mm wheelbase depending on the body. Tamiya does not publish the spur or gearbox stage, so enter your pinion in the gearing tool to see the ratio.

Pinion The small gear on the motor shaft. Fewer teeth gear the car shorter: quicker acceleration, lower top speed and a cooler motor. More teeth do the opposite. On a chassis sold as kits, each kit brings its own. Spur The large gear the pinion drives. A bigger spur with the same pinion gears the car shorter. Pinion and spur must have the same pitch, or tooth size, to mesh. Transmission & axle Every reduction after the spur, multiplied together: transmission, differentials and axle gears. It is fixed by the design; the gearing you change is the pinion and spur. Final drive, printed How many times the motor turns for one turn of the wheels. A higher number is shorter gearing: more acceleration and pulling power, less top speed.

Tire diameter The outside diameter of the mounted tire, tread to tread. A taller tire covers more ground each turn, which gears the car taller. At high speed tires can balloon and grow, so the real gearing gets taller as the car goes faster.

How these numbers were settled

The M-05Ra manual fits a 16T pinion (BA33 '16T Pinion gear') and prints the same pinion options as the M-05, 16T (7.25:1), 18T (6.44:1) and 20T (5.8:1) (step 11, PDF p. 7); both current kits print 7.25:1, 'ギヤ比＝7.25：1' on the Citroen 2CV Rally 58670 and the Renault 5 Turbo 47435.

The spur and gearbox stage are not published, so pinion x ratio is the only gearing fact.
Tamiya describes it as the front-wheel-drive M-05 adapted for flat dirt ('M-05シャーシをベースに､フラットダート走行に対応').
The kit pages print 239mm (2CV Rally) and 210mm (Renault 5 Turbo) wheelbases.
