Tamiya's GF-02 is a 1/10 four-wheel-drive, gear-driven chassis with a long wheelbase and big tires, sold as the Quirkhopper and Squash Van kits.

Tamiya prints 18.03:1 for both kits on the stock 18T pinion and does not publish the spur or the gear train behind it, so the pinion and that total are the only gearing figures. The wheelbase is 267 mm. The pinion, motor and tires come with each kit rather than with the chassis, so enter yours in the gearing tool.

Drive All four wheels are driven. That gives more grip under power, especially on loose ground. The cost is more parts to maintain. Build A kit you build yourself from parts. Most kits come without motor, ESC, servo, radio and battery, and many without tires or a painted body. The manual lists what to add. Scale The maker's nominal size compared with a full-size vehicle. Pinion The small gear on the motor shaft. Fewer teeth gear the car shorter: quicker acceleration, lower top speed and a cooler motor. More teeth do the opposite. On a chassis sold as kits, each kit brings its own. Spur The large gear the pinion drives. A bigger spur with the same pinion gears the car shorter. Pinion and spur must have the same pitch, or tooth size, to mesh. Transmission & axle Every reduction after the spur, multiplied together: transmission, differentials and axle gears. It is fixed by the design; the gearing you change is the pinion and spur. Final drive How many times the motor turns for one turn of the wheels. A higher number is shorter gearing: more acceleration and pulling power, less top speed.

Tire diameter The outside diameter of the mounted tire, tread to tread. A taller tire covers more ground each turn, which gears the car taller. At high speed tires can balloon and grow, so the real gearing gets taller as the car goes faster.

How these numbers were settled

The GF-02 is Tamiya's gear-driven 4WD monocoque with integrated sealed gearboxes and a 267mm wheelbase.

Tamiya publishes neither the spur tooth count nor the ratio of the gear train after it: the Quirkhopper manual (58756.pdf) shows the 18T pinion (MA5, step 8, p. 6) and motor plate holes marked 17, 18 and 20 but no ratio for the other pinions and no tooth counts in the gear train.
Both kit pages print 'ギヤ比=18.03:1', which is the kit's 18T pinion, and say separately sold pinions give a choice of three ratios, which Tamiya does not print.
Both kits are standard products in Tamiya's status file; the Squash Van is not on Tamiya Japan's GF-02 list but its page names the GF-02.
