Tooth counts are the ones in the specifications above. Pitch is given as metric module (Mod 1, Mod 0.8) or diametral pitch (32P, 48P). They are different standards and are not interchangeable, even where the numbers look close. Bore is the pinion’s hole, listed separately from the motor shaft. How these numbers were settled
Nitro, Nitro Star F5.9 engine, with the Savage three-speed transmission.
- HPI prints no gear ratio, so the figures shown here are worked out from the tooth counts in the manual's parts list (p. 47), with the gear pairs taken from the transmission exploded view (p. 49): 17T clutch bell (77107) to 47T spur (77127); first gear 18T/44T, second 21T/41T, third 26T/36T; a 30T drive gear to the 31T gear on the output shaft; then 29T/9T diff bevel gears (105551).
- Third (top) gear gives 12.75:1, the figure shown here; second gear is 17.97:1 and first 22.50:1.
