Tooth counts are the ones in the specifications above. Pitch is given as metric module (Mod 1, Mod 0.8) or diametral pitch (32P, 48P). They are different standards and are not interchangeable, even where the numbers look close. Bore is the pinion’s hole, listed separately from the motor shaft. Linked part numbers go to the maker's or official distributor's page for that part.
How these numbers were settled
Nitro, Nitro Star F4.6 V2 engine, with the Savage two-speed transmission.
- HPI prints no gear ratio, so the figures shown here are worked out from the tooth counts in the manual's parts list (p. 47), with the gear pairs taken from the transmission exploded view (p. 49): 17T clutch bell (77107) to 47T spur (76937); first gear 18T/44T, second 23T/39T; a 32T drive gear (86084) to the 29T gear on the output shaft (86098); then 29T/9T diff bevel gears (105551).
- Second (high) gear gives 13.69:1, the figure shown here; first gear is 19.73:1.
- The manual's two-speed setup page (p. 35) labels the drive gear 34T, but the parts list, the exploded view and the part page all say 32T, so 32T is used.
- HPI quotes speeds over 45 mph.
- Tires are Tredz TerraHex HD, 160x90mm (160584).
