MRC front-motor rear-drive conversion for MB-01

Tamiya MB-01

Move the MB-01 motor to the front while keeping rear-wheel drive, then add MRC drift steering. This needs separate BT-01 parts packs, a shortened propeller shaft and several clearance cuts.

Installation notes

  • The MB-01FR Ver. 1.01 sheet explicitly requires SP-1732, SP-1733, SP-1734 and SP-1737 in addition to one MRCMBBTFR full set. Quantities are one sold pack each. The BT-01 listing supplies the links to these donor packs; shared numbers alone are not the fitment evidence.
  • Retain usable MB-01 differential, motor, suspension/chassis structure, hubs/pins, shocks, screws and B9 adjusters. The MRC full set provides the high-angle front suspension, free axles, wipers and all listed conversion-specific spacers, bearings and fasteners.
  • Assemble the front gearbox using Tamiya BT-01 FR supplement step 7, not the MB-01 base manual, which has no FR gearbox. Use the long shaft and coupling hardware in 51737, orient the differential opposite to MR and mount the motor in the illustrated upright position.
  • Make the propeller shaft from BT-01 C parts and shorten it to the maker marked position for the selected 210, 225 or 239 mm MB wheelbase. The original full BT-01 shaft length is not usable unchanged. Retain the rest of each sold pack as spares.
  • Trim C4 approximately in half for wiper-rod clearance and use the supplied rubber rings at front and rear C1 joints; the maker also recommends heat-shrink retention. Trim the bumper, servo-mount interference and front body-post mount to clear the motor/linkage.
  • Raise the servo mount by the supplied 10 mm standoffs and the battery holder by the supplied 25 mm standoffs where needed. Stock shocks use the supplied 8 mm preload rings for front motor weight; the separate lever-ratio plate is a conditional roll-control alternative.
  • MB FR uses the arms at the sheet-specific near-zero/1 mm gaps and a 53.5 mm wiper rod. Baseline front hub-plus-wheel offset is 14 mm, normally 6 mm hubs plus 8 mm-offset front wheels and 0 mm rear offset. Check the actual body and selected wheelbase.
  • Use a separate drift gyro, a compatible servo/radio/ESC/motor system, and drift wheels/tires suited to the surface. These electronics and tires are not supplied by the conversion pack. Match any replacement servo horn to the servo spline.
  • Adjust gyro gain to avoid steering oscillation, set servo end points after assembly, and check tires, body and linkage through the full suspension and steering range. Maker setup dimensions are starting points for its P-tile surface, not guaranteed settings for every surface.
