Tamiya's BT-01 is a 1/10 two-wheel-drive chassis that builds as front-wheel or rear-wheel drive, sold as kits under classic touring and sports car bodies.

Every kit shares the 70T spur and the 2.60:1 gearbox and axle stage, with wheelbases of 251 mm and 257 mm. The pinion, motor and tires come with each kit. With only two driven wheels, a smaller pinion helps traction out of slow corners.

Pinion The small gear on the motor shaft. Fewer teeth gear the car shorter: quicker acceleration, lower top speed and a cooler motor. More teeth do the opposite. On a chassis sold as kits, each kit brings its own. Spur The large gear the pinion drives. A bigger spur with the same pinion gears the car shorter. Pinion and spur must have the same pitch, or tooth size, to mesh. Transmission & axle Every reduction after the spur, multiplied together: transmission, differentials and axle gears. It is fixed by the design; the gearing you change is the pinion and spur. This one is worked out from the tooth counts the maker publishes. Final drive How many times the motor turns for one turn of the wheels. A higher number is shorter gearing: more acceleration and pulling power, less top speed. On-road racers often compare gearing by rollout instead, because tire sizes differ between cars.

Tire diameter The outside diameter of the mounted tire, tread to tread. A taller tire covers more ground each turn, which gears the car taller. Race tires wear down over a day, and a smaller tire gears the car shorter.

How these numbers were settled

BT-01 is a two-wheel-drive chassis built as front-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive, with standard and short wheelbases.

Every kit page prints 'ギヤ比＝8.27：1(キット標準22Tピニオン使用時)', and Tamiya's 2024 Grand Prix rules list the BT-01 on 70T/25T at 7.27:1.
Both give the stage after the 70T spur: 8.27 x 22/70 = 2.599 and 7.27 x 25/70 = 2.596, so 2.6 is derived.

The kit pages print 257mm (standard) and 251mm (short), so both wheelbases are shown.
