MB-01 Wrap-Up Next front-motor rear-drive conversion

Tamiya MB-01

Build a front-motor rear-drive MB-01 using the Wrap-Up front end and FR plates. It shifts the weight layout and needs donor drive parts, shaft cutting, arm spacers and chassis trimming.

Installation notes

  • Use one 0732-FD conversion on the MB-01 rear-drive donor. Retain the rear gearbox, rear suspension, wheels/tires and selected motor position. The front unit replaces the stock front suspension/steering and uses a centrally mounted steering servo.
  • The complete kit contains bulkhead, upper brace, servo-saver extension, upper/lower arms, 2.5 mm lower plate, 2 mm upper plate, 4 mm shock tower and spacers/posts/screws. It excludes the knuckles, free axles, bearings and ball/link hardware listed in this route.
  • Buy one D1-415FM knuckle pair, one 51000 saver, TWO five-piece 54209 ball-connector packs because six connectors are used, and one each of 42323, 54869, 54183 and 51239. Use one 54250 pair for the two 42 mm turnbuckles, or one equivalent Yokomo SD-TB42A pair instead, not both.
  • The base kit supports 210/225/239 mm wheelbases by changing mounting positions. Narrow M-chassis wheels are supported. Use a suitable steering servo, separately supplied drift gyro/electronics and surface-appropriate drift tires; verify actual wheel/knuckle/shock clearance and endpoints.
  • The maker photos include separate WRAP-UP shocks and optional shorty-battery carbon side decks. They are not contents of 0732-FD and are not automatic purchases in this route. Retained dampers and battery mounting must suit the selected configuration.
  • 0834-FD blue edition has the same stated conversion function and is not another path. The later PRO includes carbon side decks/motor plate and is center-high-motor only; do not transfer that narrower motor-position scope to the original or count it as a new mechanism.
  • Add one 0754-FD FR change-plate set and one pack each of BT-01 51732, 51734 and 51737. The maker’s exact FR stock-gear branch does not call for a separate 51733 D-parts pack. This is a different package from the MRC FR recipe.
  • The maker completed a 225 mm FR example. Assemble the rear drive module as the BT-01 FR manual shows, using the small original MB-01 225 mm stopper. The larger stopper is for 239 mm; 210 mm uses neither. Cut the BT-01 plastic center shaft at M for 225 mm, using its S/M/L markings.
  • Trim the front chassis using the supplied cutting-guide shape so the steering rods clear and the conversion lower plate sits flat. The original illustrated steps show both side-wall cuts and leveling the two front edge projections. This is a permanent donor modification.
  • The FR plate otherwise lengthens the wheelbase about 5 mm. In the maker’s 225 mm example, move lower arms rearward using 5 mm spacers and use 9 mm upper-arm spacers. Check the resulting measured wheelbase and full suspension/steering clearance.
  • The maker’s pictured 48-pitch build omits 51734/51737 only because it uses a separate 48P conversion. This route retains the stock-gear FR branch and includes both packs. Do not combine those two bills of materials. Battery-holder/side-deck photos are examples rather than proof that those accessories are included.
