Specs

The Super Baja Rey (LOS05013) is Losi's 1/6 four-wheel-drive desert truck, sold ready to run with a Dynamite Fuze 1200Kv brushless motor and a Fuze 160A waterproof speed control.

A 19T pinion on a 37T spur and 4.22:1 inside the transmission give a final drive of 8.22:1. The sheet's top-speed figure assumes the full 8S the speed control allows, about 77 mph on 152.4 mm tires, but the manual rates the included pinion for 6S and Losi claims 50 mph or more. Fit packs with EC5 plugs.

How to read these figures
  • Stock is as the vehicle ships.
  • Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
  • Derived is worked out from gear tooth counts the maker publishes rather than printed as a ratio; the notes below say how.
  • The top speed is kinematic: an ideal no-load RPM with no slip and no loss under load, so a real car is slower.
  • The maker advertises 50 mph, which is their own claim on their own conditions.

About teeth, pitch and bore
  • Tooth counts are the ones in the specifications above.
  • Pitch is given as metric module (Mod 1, Mod 0.8) or diametral pitch (32P, 48P). They are different standards and are not interchangeable, even where the numbers look close.
  • Bore is the pinion’s hole, listed separately from the motor shaft.

How these numbers were settled

Losi's page and manual give a 19T pinion on a 37T spur and an 8.22:1 final drive.

  • The page also prints a 4.88:1 internal ratio, which does not fit those figures; the 4.22:1 shown here is worked out from the tooth counts and the final drive.
  • The tire is the 6.0 in (152.4 mm) outer diameter in Losi's spec table.
  • The 160A speed control takes 3S to 8S, which sets the cell count at 8, but the manual rates the included 19T pinion for 6S.
  • On 8S the figures work out to about 77 mph and on 6S to about 58 mph, so Losi's 50+ mph claim sits at about 86% of the 6S figure.
