The MINI-Z 4x4 Suzuki Jimny Sierra pairs a painted replica body with the MX-01 four-wheel-drive chassis. The factory-assembled crawler uses a 130-class motor and four AAA running batteries, with a separate set of batteries for the supplied transmitter. Its suspension and drivetrain package supports indoor obstacle courses. Several pinion gears and matching spacers are included for different speeds, so the published range of reductions describes setup choices rather than six simultaneously active ratios.1 (opens in a new tab)

The Jimny uses the MX-01's ladder-frame, linked solid-axle layout for small-scale crawling, rather than the road-going MINI-Z chassis. A dedicated torque-oriented 130 motor and slipper-equipped drivetrain support that role. Its detailed body is part of the package, but suspension clearance still matters. Establish the standard axle and tire arrangement before planning a trail modification. Model and equipment information (opens in a new tab).
The kind of vehicle the maker sells it as. It sets what the car is built to do and which cars it is fair to compare it with.
Crawlers are built for slow, controlled climbing over rocks: very low gearing, flexible suspension and locked axles.
Drive
All four wheels are driven. That gives more grip under power, especially on loose ground.
The cost is more parts to maintain.
A crawler needs every wheel pulling to climb.
Power
A brushed motor carries current through carbon brushes that rub on the commutator.
It is cheaper and smooth at low speed.
The brushes wear and the motor loses power over time.
That low-speed smoothness is why so many crawlers use one.
Build
Ready to run: built at the factory with the electronics installed.
Some come without a battery or charger; the maker's box contents say which.
Part number
The maker's product number for this exact version.
A V2, a new color, or a kit instead of an RTR usually has a different number, and parts can differ between them.
Check it against your box or receipt before ordering parts.

Drivetrain
Pinion
The small gear on the motor shaft. Fewer teeth gear the car shorter: quicker acceleration, lower top speed and a cooler motor. More teeth do the opposite.
On this car one tooth changes the gearing by about 10%.
Crawlers run small pinions for slow, precise wheel speed on climbs; a bigger one is quicker on the trail but harder to control on rocks.
Spur
The large gear the pinion drives. A bigger spur with the same pinion gears the car shorter.
Pinion and spur must have the same pitch, or tooth size, to mesh.
Axle drive, front
Whether the front axle is driven by the motor.
The calculator uses this axle's own tire size and complete recorded gear path.
Axle drive, rear
Whether the rear axle is driven by the motor.
The calculator uses this axle's own tire size and complete recorded gear path.
Transmission & axle, front
Every reduction after the spur, multiplied together: transmission, transfer case and axle gears.
That chain is why a crawler's figure is much higher than other classes'.
It is fixed by the design; the gearing you change is the pinion and spur.
Transmission & axle, rear
Every reduction after the spur, multiplied together: transmission, transfer case and axle gears.
That chain is why a crawler's figure is much higher than other classes'.
It is fixed by the design; the gearing you change is the pinion and spur.
Final drive
How many times the motor turns for one turn of the wheels. A higher number is shorter gearing: more acceleration and pulling power, less top speed.
Crawlers run far higher ratios than other classes, so the truck can creep and hold on a climb.
Axle coupling
How the driven axles are connected.
The coupling has not been established from a source. It is not inferred from 4WD or from the axle differentials.
The outside diameter of the mounted tire, tread to tread. A taller tire covers more ground each turn, which gears the car taller.
Crawler wheels are named by rim size, such as 1.9 or 2.2 inches; that is the wheel, not this tire diameter.
Tire width
The outside width of the stock tires on both axles.
Width and outside diameter are separate measurements; neither is the wheel's bead diameter.
Stock tire width
Stock tire width: A documented stock wheel, tire, or axle measurement. Stock dimensions alone do not establish the largest size that will clear the body and suspension.
Rollout, front
Distance at the front axle per motor turn through its recorded gear path.
This follows the listed gear reduction and tire diameter; it does not account for tire slip or deflection.
Rollout, rear
Distance at the rear axle per motor turn through its recorded gear path.
This follows the listed gear reduction and tire diameter; it does not account for tire slip or deflection.
The rollout difference needs both tire diameters and axle reductions. The connection between axle inputs is not recorded, so its ability to accommodate a mismatch is unknown. These figures do not predict vehicle road speed.
Stock is as the vehicle ships.
Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
Not published means it exists but no source we could find prints it.

Upgrades and setup
Keep the Jimny focused on scale trail driving. Tires and gearing that suit small obstacles are more useful starting points than a high-speed motor. Try the supplied gearing choices before changing the power system, and check a replacement tire through full steering and axle articulation. Wheels sold for a Jeep or 4Runner can have different clearance even when an adapter makes them fit the axle.[1] Exact numbered stock configuration (opens in a new tab)[2] Earlier Jimny completed wheel and servo changes (opens in a new tab)
Catappi replaces the Mini-Z4x4’s wheels with articulated tracks to change how it moves across loose or uneven surfaces. Buy two MXW009 packs for four track units. The Jimny body requires interference trimming, and some metal axle accessories cannot be retained. This is a manufacturer-listed option package; exact body-cut boundaries still need the fitting sheet.
Manufacturer-listed track option: two MXW009 packs cover four wheels. Jimny body trimming is required, and MXW004/MXW005 cannot be retained.

Shows an earlier Jimny transformed with suspension changes, larger tires and printed parts. It offers a contrasting build direction, though the exact parts and clearance under the current body still need checking.
