VFD Stubby transmission and steering relocation

Vanquish Products VRD Carbon Kit · VPS09015

The stubby kit makes room for a short motor and moves the steering servo behind the axle. It suits a build arranged around a compact motor, but it excludes ordinary 540-length motors and cannot be combined with the chassis-mounted-servo conversion.

Mechanical kit option for VPS09015. A short motor, suitable servo horn and matched electronics are separate choices; a complete installed package is not specified.

Installation notes

  • Maker limits motor length to 35 mm or less and recommends a 24 mm servo horn. The original Carbon manual supplies a 20 mm 25T horn; do not silently treat that as the recommended stubby horn.
  • Kit includes behind-axle F10 servo mount, shortened skid, chassis braces, shortened topshaft and aluminum posts, rod ends/pivot balls, 50 mm drag link, hardware and an instruction sheet.
  • The complete kit is documented for VPS09015 VRD Carbon only. Partial VFD shaft/post reuse does not make the whole kit fit a VS4-10. VRD Stance, Mullet and straight-axle builds are not added by family name.
  • VPS10401 CMS and VPS10402 Stubby are mutually exclusive choices. This reference identifies the listed mechanical kit; it does not establish a measured handling benefit.
  • For a 25T steering servo, separately sold VPS02410 is a 24 mm horn option matching the maker recommendation. Other servo splines need their own horn. Check offset and full articulation clearance; the original 20 mm horn does not meet that recommendation.
  • A short motor is separately required. The 27.4 mm Holmes Revolver V3 Snubnose 1800KV (120100092) meets the maker's length limit and nominal mount/shaft dimensions, but this does not establish an installed motor/ESC package. Motor screw engagement must not exceed 3 mm.
  • Holmes CrawlMaster Mini v3 RTR 210100021 supplies 4 mm motor plugs, XT60 battery connection and a fixed 7.4 V/3A BEC. Motor leads match its 4 mm plugs. The selected steering servo must accept 7.4 V; receiver, servo and motor wiring remain build-specific.

  • The Carbon kit has a 20 mm 25T horn. VPS10401 CMS and VPS10402 Stubby are separate options; the stock parts list is not their installation guide.
Vanquish VPS02410 24 mm 25T horn (opens in a new tab)
  • VPS02410 is a 24 mm 25T horn. Length and spline agreement do not establish servo offset or full-travel clearance.

  • The 27.4 mm Snubnose motor meets the 35 mm kit envelope. Dimensional agreement does not establish complete installed clearance.
