Front-biased axle gearing

Traxxas TRX-4 Ford F-150 · 92144-4

These gear choices make the front wheels turn faster than the rear wheels during crawling. That front-to-rear speed difference is a setup option for technical terrain, but it adds driveline load and can reduce runtime or make faster trail driving more prone to sliding.

Installation notes

  • Choose one route: 8287 in the front with standard rear gears, 8288 in the rear with standard front gears, or both in those respective axles. One sold ring-and-pinion set services one axle.
  • Install each ring and pinion as its matched pair. Changing both axles to the same ratio does not create front-to-rear speed bias.
  • Traxxas demonstrates the combined front-overdrive/rear-underdrive setup for dedicated crawling. The single-axle routes provide less speed difference.
  • Axle-speed bias increases driveline load and can increase motor/ESC temperature and reduce runtime. Fast trail handling can become more prone to sliding.
