Background
The RC10 4WD Jay Halsey Chain Drive Edition is a vintage-style buggy kit inspired by the prototype raced at the 1985 IFMAR Off-Road World Championships in Del Mar.1 After winning the two-wheel-drive title, Jay Halsey finished second in the four-wheel-drive class with the experimental chain-driven car.1 This edition combines the later vintage RC10 4WD platform with short-arm suspension, a stainless-steel chain and a gold chassis.

How to read these figures
- Stock is as the vehicle ships.
- Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
- Not applicable means the vehicle does not come with it, like the motor on a roller or the tires on a race kit.
- Not published means it exists but no source we could find prints it.

Build and setup
Factory setup guide for this configuration.
The Jay Halsey chain-drive edition needs its own assembly references. Its chain, sprockets, separator and tension adjustment differ from the belt-driven RC10 4WD kits. Start with the manual’s chain routing and adjustment, then check that the drivetrain and suspension move freely through their travel. The maker describes this as a tribute to the 1985 prototype rather than an exact replica.[1] Exact kit assembly manual (opens in a new tab)[2] Exact kit product page (opens in a new tab)
Choose the motor, pinion and electronics as a complete system for the intended running conditions. The manual lists a 2S LiPo stick pack or a six-cell NiMH pack for completion. Keep setup changes separate from replacement-part selection: the similar RC10 bodies and chassis names do not establish that the belt-drive and chain-drive components interchange.[1] Exact kit assembly manual (opens in a new tab)[2] Exact kit product page (opens in a new tab)

- Motor, speed control and radio are not supplied, so there is no factory power setup or final-drive value.
- The full transmission and chain reduction remains unknown.
- Front shock oil is 50wt.
- The rear is left blank because physical page 16 prints 30wt while page 17 prints 35wt; confirm the intended setting before filling the shocks.
