Tamiya documents 54500 for Type-S and shows 68T/22T at D9 position E, 8.04:1. This is a factory gearing recipe; no measured speed or thermal result is claimed.
Installation notes
- For the original 58600 Type-S with its 22T pinion, fit 54500 and move the retained plastic D9 mount from G (marked 22) to E (marked 20). The 54500 chart explicitly lists 68T/22T = 8.04:1 at E. Do not leave the motor in the original 70T setting.
- Use one 54500 set: one 68T spur, its spur mount, four 3x5mm screws, the 7x5x11.4 mm spacer and 2x9mm shaft. Remove the original GB5 70T spur and GB3 stopper; assemble and orient the replacement parts as drawn on sheet page 1.
- Retain serviceable 1150 bearings, propeller parts and bevel pinion, plus the Type-S 22T motor pinion, D9 mount, motor plate and attaching screws. The generic sheet recommends ball bearings for bushed TT-02s; Type-S already has bearings, so a full bearing set is not a new mandatory purchase.
- Keep the original Torque-Tuned motor, suitable ESC, battery and 0.6 Mod gear system. This recipe changes gearing only and gives no extra voltage or motor-temperature allowance. Check free rotation, mesh and gear-cover clearance; inspect motor temperature during short initial runs.
- The 50357 pinion pack contains 22T and 23T gears; this recipe uses only the retained 22T. The 51530 D-parts listing supplies replacement D9 if needed. Both supporting quantities identify one sold pack, not a required new purchase or use of every included part.
- This route covers Type-S 58600 with the original D9 mount. Other mount designs require their own instructions. Do not extend it to Type-SRX, whose 54500 product entry has separate holder-only and already-included-equipment restrictions.

- 54500 lists Type-S. Type-SRX has separate holder/equipment restrictions; the gearing range is not measured vehicle speed.

- Type-S has an original 22T pinion,70T spur and D9 positionG. The 54500 combination requires the revised motor-position mark.

- For 68T/22T, D9 positionE gives 8.04:1. The original 70T motor position must change.

- Type-S already has bearings, turnbuckles, CVA shocks and a Torque-Tuned motor. A complete new bearing set is not mandatory for this gearing change.
