Konghead 58646 four-wheel steering

Tamiya G6-01

Add rear steering for tighter turns and selectable front/rear steering behavior. The extra servo and mixing radio increase cost, electrical demand and setup work.

Installation notes

  • This recipe is scoped to Konghead 58646. Retain the complete original kit and its unused 4WS bag, servo saver, mounts, links and plastic sprues. It is not a replacement-parts shopping list for an incomplete used chassis.
  • Buy one additional rear Futaba S-U300 servo, air/car ordering code 032394, for two steering servos total. Tamiya qualifies the S-U300 model. The separate car page lists code 042850; no unverified SKU alias is created. Retain a compatible front servo/ESC and verify BEC voltage/current against both servos. Maker voltage is 4.8-6.0 V.
  • Supply a four-wheel-steering radio and compatible receiver. The documented Futaba example is T3PV plus R314SB-E. Its 4WS mode connects front steering to CH1 and rear steering to CH4. R203GF cannot use this mixing function; a three-channel label alone is insufficient.
  • Center the servos before fitting their horns. With T3PV select SMX=4WS, set front/rear direction using channel reversing and limit each steering direction with endpoint adjustment. Check travel, straight-ahead alignment and clearance with the wheels unloaded.
  • The G6-01 branch retains the rear drive shafts, rear wheel axles, 1150 bushes/bearings, upper arms, screw pins and dampers. Do not transfer the GF-02 48 mm shaft replacement to this assembly.
  • Build rear lower arms C17/C16 and uprights B1/B9 using four MB2 4x11.5 step screws and two MB6 ball connectors. Rear servo uses C11/E9 mounts and E8 bellcrank with two 850 bushes. Rear tie rods use two 3x37.7 MC9 rods with 24 mm gaps; servo link uses OP2 3x12 rod with a 3 mm gap.
  • The illustrated steering hardware is supplied or retained from this exact kit. Missing parts require an exact service-card inventory before purchase. Four-wheel steering adds a servo, electrical load and linkage adjustment; the radio example is a tested configuration, not a claim about present availability.
