Background
The F103GT takes Tamiya's direct-drive rear-wheel-drive layout into a touring-car format. Introduced in 2006, it combines a 257 mm wheelbase with rubber touring tires and body mounts for suitable touring shells. A 2.5 mm FRP lower deck and 1.5 mm upper deck carry the chassis, while the rear motor pinion drives the differential spur directly. Its 5.00:1 kit gearing comes from a 14T pinion and 70T spur. Factory reference (opens in a new tab). Assembly manual (opens in a new tab).

The suspension follows the F103 approach: independent kingpin-and-spring front wheels and a rigid rear axle supported by an FRP T-bar. A friction plate and coil spring control the rear movement. The ball differential and ride-height-adjustable gear case provide setup choices without adding a touring car's full independent rear suspension. Factory reference (opens in a new tab). Assembly manual (opens in a new tab).
This is a chassis kit rather than a complete ready-to-run car. It includes a Type 540 motor, wheels and slick tires, while the body, radio equipment, controller and battery are separate. The supplied tires measure 66 mm in diameter. Match any body to the wheelbase and available width, and use the F103GT instructions when ordering its touring-specific mounts, differential hardware and suspension parts. How to read these figures
- Stock is as the vehicle ships.
- Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
- Derived uses recorded dimensions or arithmetic. The row explains the inference. A nominal mating size is not a measured tolerance or a complete fitment guarantee.
- Not applicable means the vehicle does not come with it, like the motor on a roller or the tires on a race kit.
- Not published means it exists but no source we could find prints it.

Build and setup
Factory setup guide for this configuration.
Keep the standard 14T pinion and 70T spur as the reference when checking a restored F103GT. It is direct drive, so there is no additional gearbox reduction after the spur. The optional 0.4 Mod spur arrangement is a different combination; do not fit a pinion solely because its tooth count looks suitable.[1] Exact factory product and historical description (opens in a new tab)[2] Exact factory assembly and setup manual (opens in a new tab)
Inspect the T-bar, friction plate and ball differential before adding power. These parts control rear suspension movement and drive delivery, so binding or uneven assembly affects the car before an electronics upgrade can help. Start from the manual's front springs and rear ride-height arrangement, then change the tires or suspension setup for the surface.[1] Exact factory product and historical description (opens in a new tab)[2] Exact factory assembly and setup manual (opens in a new tab)

About these specs
The supplied 14T pinion and 70T 0.6-module spur drive the rear axle directly, giving a 1:1 internal ratio and a 5.00:1 final drive ratio.
