Center differential conversion

HPI Racing Savage X Flux V2 · 160101

The center differential lets the front and rear axles turn at different speeds and gives you an oil-tunable way to change acceleration behavior. HPI describes less tendency to lift and flip under power, with a tradeoff in standing backflips and wheelies; this is an optional change for the Savage X Flux V2, while the XL V2 already has it.

Upgrade notes

  • Requires 111167: IDLER GEAR 31TX1M (STEEL).
  • Transfer the existing idler gear if serviceable; not supplied in the conversion.
  • Requires 160139: Cup Joint 6x13x20mm (2pcs).
  • Transfer the existing pair of cup joints if serviceable. One sold 2-piece set covers the pair.
  • Requires 160392: Pro-Series Silicone Diff Oil 100,000Cst (60cc).
  • 100,000 cSt is the manufacturer starting recommendation, not a new factory-filled setting. Supply separately.
  • Requires Z159: THREAD LOCK.
  • Separately supplied assembly consumable. This legacy numbered bottle is discontinued; appropriate equivalent material is acceptable.
  • Requires Z164: HEAVY WEIGHT GREASE (#30000/GEAR DIFF).
  • Separately supplied assembly consumable. This legacy numbered bottle is discontinued; appropriate equivalent material is acceptable.

Manufacturer-documented Savage X Flux V2 option; this is a complete instruction-based component bill, not a claim of independently observed installation.

Installation notes

  • The conversion is supplied unassembled and reuses 111167 plus the 160139 cup-joint pair.
  • HPI recommends 100k cSt silicone oil as a starting setting, supplied separately.
  • The maker describes harder acceleration before front-end lift, with fewer standing backflips and harder wheelies. It is a handling tradeoff rather than a universal improvement.
  • The XL Flux V2 already lists 160130 as standard; do not recommend purchasing this as an absent XL feature.
  • Supply 100,000 cSt silicone oil, appropriate grease and threadlock separately; the instructions name 160392, Z164 and Z159. Z159/Z164 are legacy references and currently discontinued, so equivalent suitable assembly supplies may be used.
  • Retain the original 160120 support, 160311 cover, screws, spacers, clips and other asterisk-marked hardware shown in steps 1-6. Inspect them before reuse.
  • One B085 8x16x5 and one B032 10x16x5 bearing are components of the 160130 kit. They are visible in the maker kit photo and are not marked excluded in step 4. Do not require extra two-piece bearing service packs for a new complete kit.
