Background
The Hi-Rock 2.0 revises the Outback Hi-Rock trail truck around a steel C-channel chassis, portal axles and a servo-operated two-speed transmission. A reverse-drive layout addresses torque twist, while metal suspension links and adjustable aluminum oil-filled shocks support the axles. Its pickup body includes a molded grille, concealed body mounting and LED headlights. The ready-to-run package supplies the radio, brushed power system, NiMH battery and USB charger, with transmitter batteries supplied by the owner. FTX (opens in a new tab)

Portal reduction gears sit at the wheel ends rather than using a straight axle layout. Keep the portal gear assemblies and their covers in mind when identifying axle service parts. Source details (opens in a new tab)
A two-speed transmission gives the model separate low and high ranges. Use the low range for slow obstacle work, and confirm which range is selected before comparing gearing or fitting a different motor. Source details (opens in a new tab)
Oil-filled dampers provide a serviceable suspension setting. Spring support and oil damping perform different jobs, so record the original settings before changing either and compare one adjustment at a time. Source details (opens in a new tab)

Build and setup
Factory setup guide for this configuration.
Start Hi-Rock 2.0 setup by matching its running mode to the way you want reverse to work. The handbook distinguishes immediate forward/reverse from forward/brake/reverse, and separates neutral drag brake from trigger braking. Its MG6-BS radio page and WP-1060 controller page describe different setting interfaces, so identify the fitted equipment and use its corresponding instructions.[1] Outback Hi-Rock 2.0 factory setup manual (opens in a new tab)
Set steering center and travel before changing the servo or suspension. The factory radio instructions provide separate trim and rate controls, and the troubleshooting section sends a failed gear change back to the shift cable, servo connection and adjustment. Check those mechanical connections before replacing the transmission.[1] Outback Hi-Rock 2.0 factory setup manual (opens in a new tab)

Service the dampers and check pinion/spur mesh as part of the baseline. The manual calls for checking shock-fluid condition and explains that insufficient gear clearance can damage the gears. Record the current setup, restore free movement, then compare one damping or gearing change at a time. The brushed FTX5587V2 and brushless FTX5587V2BL have separate equipment columns.[1] Outback Hi-Rock 2.0 factory setup manual (opens in a new tab)
