Traxxas VXL-3s: calibration

Traxxas Slash 4X4 VXL, model 68386-4, with the original controller and radio configuration covered by this manual edition.

Before starting

• Confirm that the fitted controller is the VXL-3s. Calibration sets throttle endpoints; it is separate from choosing a driving mode.
• For programming tests, support the vehicle with the drive wheels clear of the ground and disconnect motor wires A and C, as identified in the manual’s wiring diagram.
• For the original TQi transmitter, if its settings were changed, restore its defaults: switch it off, hold MENU and SET, switch it on, release both buttons when the LED blinks red, then press SET. A steady green transmitter LED confirms the reset.

Calibration sequence

1. With the ESC off, connect a fully charged compatible battery pack to the VXL-3s.
2. Switch on the transmitter and leave the throttle trigger at neutral.
3. Hold EZ-Set until the LED changes from green to red, then release the button.
4. At the single red flash, pull the trigger fully back to full forward throttle and keep it there.
5. At the two red flashes, push the trigger fully forward to full reverse and keep it there.
6. One green flash confirms completion. The steady LED is green or red according to the Low-Voltage Detection setting.

Final checks

• Return the trigger to neutral. Check the battery mode before driving; never use LiPo with Low-Voltage Detection disabled.
• If the LED sequence is unexpected, disconnect the battery, wait a few seconds, reconnect it and restart the calibration. Reconnect any disconnected motor wires only with power disconnected.
