Tamiya's TC-01 is a 1/10 four-wheel-drive monocoque chassis with a mid-mounted motor, sold as kits under racing car bodies.

Every kit shares the 63T spur and a 2.50:1 gearbox and axle stage on a 257 mm wheelbase, so the pinion you fit sets the final drive. The pinion, motor and tires come with each kit. Enter the kit pinion and your tire size in the gearing tool before changing anything.

Pinion The small gear on the motor shaft. Fewer teeth gear the car shorter: quicker acceleration, lower top speed and a cooler motor. More teeth do the opposite. On a chassis sold as kits, each kit brings its own. Spur The large gear the pinion drives. A bigger spur with the same pinion gears the car shorter. Pinion and spur must have the same pitch, or tooth size, to mesh. Transmission & axle Every reduction after the spur, multiplied together: transmission, differentials and axle gears. It is fixed by the design; the gearing you change is the pinion and spur. This one is worked out from the tooth counts the maker publishes. Final drive How many times the motor turns for one turn of the wheels. A higher number is shorter gearing: more acceleration and pulling power, less top speed. On-road racers often compare gearing by rollout instead, because tire sizes differ between cars.

Tire diameter The outside diameter of the mounted tire, tread to tread. A taller tire covers more ground each turn, which gears the car taller. Race tires wear down over a day, and a smaller tire gears the car shorter.

How these numbers were settled

TC-01 is a monocoque 4WD chassis with a mid-mounted motor, sold under racing car bodies.

Tamiya's 2026 All-Japan rules list the TC-01 on a 63T spur with a 22T pinion at 7.16:1, which gives a stage after the spur of 7.16 x 22/63 = 2.500.
The CLK-GTR kit page prints a ratio range of 7.50:1 to 5.25:1, with 6.56:1 on the kit-standard 24T pinion: (63/24) x 2.5 = 6.56, and the range matches 21T to 30T pinions on the same spur, so the spur and the 2.5 stage are derived from two Tamiya documents that agree.
