Background
The original Lunch Box is Tamiya's 1/12-scale customized Dodge van monster model. Its 1987 design combines a detailed molded van body with a compact chassis and very large tires. This sheet covers the original 58063 release; the later 58347 kit remains listed under the CW-01 chassis collection. Original instructions (opens in a new tab). Rerelease history (opens in a new tab).

The original instructions describe a box-type frame, coil-spring suspension, a sealed differential gearbox and a supplied 540 motor. The cover specifies 115 mm tires and a three-step mechanical forward-and-reverse controller. The van's tall body and short proportions are part of the model's character, not a scale four-wheel-drive van layout. Original instructions (opens in a new tab).
Begin a restoration by checking the shell mounts, rear axle movement and original speed-control hardware. Keep the original body and window groups identified separately from later finish editions. Modern radio equipment may suit a regular runner, but it does not turn the later kit's equipment specification into the original one. Original instructions (opens in a new tab).

How to read these figures
- Stock is as the vehicle ships.
- Calculated is worked from the stock figures on this page rather than stored beside them, so the two cannot drift apart.
- Not applicable means the vehicle does not come with it, like the motor on a roller or the tires on a race kit.
- Not published means it exists but no source we could find prints it.
Upgrades and setup
Body mounts and steering links deserve an early inspection on an original Lunch Box. A period review described easily damaged shell mounts and thin steering rods, alongside the lively behavior of the heavy rear axle and tall van body. Check those parts before ordering appearance upgrades. The same reviewer proposed a different four-wheel-drive chassis, but did not report completing it, so that idea is not presented as a proven conversion.[1] TamiyaClub 58063 original-model reports (opens in a new tab)
