Steel transfer gears with rear underdrive

Redcat Racing Ascent Fusion LCG · RER31524

These gears slow the rear axle relative to the front, which can help the front tires pull the truck into a climb or tight turn. The stronger underdrive choices also increase driveline scrub on firm surfaces, so choose a matched pair for the terrain rather than fitting the largest split by default.

RER31799Steel transfer underdrive gear set with top shaft1

Redcat-listed transfer-gear option. Use one matched rear gear pair at a time; advertised underdrive labels and calculated wheel-speed reductions use different conventions.

Installation notes

  • The set contains a top shaft and eight steel gears: 16T,17T,18T,20T,24T,26T,27T,28T.
  • Use 20T/24T at the front. The rear choices are matched 18T/26T, 17T/27T or 16T/28T pairs, advertised as 20%,28%,37% underdrive.
  • The Fusion already has the nominal 20% rear setting. This set changes materials or enables greater bias; it does not introduce rear underdrive to a stock Fusion.
  • Relative to the 20/24 front pair, the rear wheel-speed reductions are 16.92%,24.44%,31.43% respectively. Manufacturer labels use a different or unstated percentage convention.
  • Use the factory transfer-case procedure, preserve shaft pins, align the gears before closing the case and return the longer cover screw to the driver side.
